@pjft I had actually changed my hotkey for the RA menu in-game to be R/L/down/Y, which was working before, but isn't anymore. Maybe I can use the keyboard to get in and then go from there.

I installed xboxdrv after this started, hoping it would fix the issue I was having with the 360 controller. It didn't appear to change anything.

      @mfreshwater

      Thanks for your response.

      You're welcome

And I just read your second link and that looks like exactly what I need to know. I hope that all the buttons correlate with the games like they should but that helps a ton! I will give those a shot tonight.

Also there are some Video Tutorials further down on that same document that might be of some help as well.

You can see which emulator you are using from the Runcommand screen (which is what pops up for a couple seconds when you first launch a game). If you have more than one emulator for a system install, you can change the emulator from the Runcommand. Here are the documents about Runcommand:

@BuZz I think I may have figured out what was giving me problems. I had the bluetooth settings such that the 8bitdo was being turned on everytime I turned on the Pi. I was trying to play with the two usb controllers not realizing that the 8bitdo was on and serving as the 1P controller. If I restart retropie keeping the 8bitdo turned off I can use the two usb controllers for 2 player games. Please forgive me for wasting your time. I appreciate that you were willing to help.

Interesting enough. I deleted both configs /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg & /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg rebooted and reconfigured USB again and went straight to NES game and its working now. It was a last ditch effort and I noticed both had backup configs as well.

@BuZz Thanks for the tip. I'll post this over there to see if anything positive can come of it. At least replacing a single-board computer is MUCH cheaper than a PC.

@MisterMeeseeks said in Random directional inputs from iBuffalo controllers:

I was able to determine that the effect is SIGNIFICANTLY (though not quite completely, more like 99%) reduced when connecting the controller through a usb hub.

I'm glad to hear you found a something that works. Now, if you could just find a way to take two strokes off my golf swing. ;)

@Darksavior said in USB Arcade Stick + USB Gamepad:

Not exactly what you were asking, but you can assign a game pad to a player # to a specific emulator or globally in configuration editor . The screenshots arent updated but they're there. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Configuration-Editor

Also, if you're using a libretro emulator, can't you change controllers in the retroarch in-game menu?

This sounds great. So I can assign the game pads (currently Player 3 & 4) to Player 1 & 2 in a specific emulator, say the lr-SNES core. I'll look into this as this would be perfect. Thanks.

@mediamogul I think it will work fine once it is configured. The question is does Retropie let you calibrate analog controls that use pots? If so, how?

      Thanks!

It is never planned that stuff you have set-up breaks, but I can't guarantee it hence backing up first. Sometimes certain packages are reworked in a way that isn't very backward compatible, but backup - try and update and then post if you need help ?

@Ziffel since no one else has chimed in I'll give my two cents

I use several wireless Xbox 360 controllers with a Generic Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver that plugs in USB and I was very surprised that I didn't have any noticeable input lag. I also have an ASUS Nexus Player Gamepad that connects using Bluetooth and it seams pretty responsive as well (but I only tried it once and I use it on my laptop more). I bet there's probably a few emulators that are slower than others at input but for the most part I feel like my Raspberry Pi 3 handles all this pretty well.

What kind of controller are you using?

Now you did mention TV lag which is a real thing. I had already optimized my TV a long time ago but you might try some of these and see if it helps with your input lag:

First, if your TV has Game Mode then turn that on! Second, disable any power saving settings or ambient screen dimming. Third, turn off all post-processing effects on your TV like dynamic contrast, etc. Forth, make sure you're not daisy chaining the HDMI through an Xbox or another device (sometimes even amplifiers can delay signals). Fifth, also test with each HDMI port in the back of the TV. Sometimes 1 or 2 HDMI ports are faster than the rest. Last, maybe try other TVs and monitors to see if you still have input lag

Also make sure you have the newest version of RetroPie (I think there is some fixes to the emulator input latency):

Fixed my problem. Figured I'd post the resolution in the event that somebody else inevitably has the same issue. gunnarh's posted solution was right. It's not an issue of the multiple joysticks. It's actually the sketch. You need to use the bounce library, like was used in gunnarh's link. Without it, the buttons don't get recognized properly within retropie. I went as far as to edit the usb_desc.h for the teensyduino libary to only have it expose the joystick, and nothing more. That worked for only having a single joystick show up, but the button issue remained. It wasn't until I utilized the Bounce library, that my button presses behaved as I expected.
